The story takes place two years before the events of the original 1979 Alien film, in a near-future Earth dominated by five powerful corporations, including the newly established Prodigy Corporation. The research vessel Maginot, returning from a 65-year mission to collect alien specimens such as facehuggers, suffers a catastrophic malfunction and crash-lands in New Siam, a bustling cyberpunk metropolis on Earth.
